Hi Noah

I realize these documents have a twofold purpose. One is to get acceptance into the program and the other is to provide information about your goals.

I think your statement should get you accepted to the program as it hits all manner of current themes.

The website for the School of Info lists several specialty areas. Did you have one of those in mind? If so, you might want to be more explicit. As I read the paper I understand you are interested in the human/application interface. To what purpose?
People seek information to solve problems and usually find what they seek but that information isn't always what they need. Are you going to help refine their search by defining a context in which information is useful?
Search engines are a dime a dozen and often do the same data dumps. The S of I specialty in information analysis would be of great help if you could compare a document contents against a controlled vocabulary and then create meaningful metadata records. The problem now is that librarians create records to sort documents not retrieve content.

I also realize your statement of purpose is YOUR statement of purpose and must reflect your goals. I can remember struggling with my dissertation and a member of my committee said "just tell me a story." It made it a lot easier. It looks like you have many possible potential areas to research.

Good Luck. Sorry if the comments are not helpful but old retired people have opinions and feel that everbody else is entitled to them.

Yeah, this particular draft reduced the length by almost half, so I imagine a little organization is needed. The program asked four specific questions, so it might actually be a good thing your noticing multiple questions being answered, but I agree that I don't want it to sound like a mystery novel... although, maybe a little bit of word play.

I think it is interesting, but needs some organization to it. I feel like you are answering multiple questions here, but your narrative and organization does not help me to understand them easily. I was always told in my Ph.D. program that a dissertation is not a mystery novel: tell them what you are going to say, say it, then summarize. I know it's boring, but I would be a bit more formal in my organization and tone (e.g., avoid the term "savy").

What you did at the end, by naming people, is great. It tells them who you might want to work with and that you did your research.
